Intense grief following the loss of a loved one can nearly double the risk of early death, according to a recent study published in Frontiers in Public Health. Researchers found that individuals with persistently high levels of grief in the years after a loss had an 88% increased likelihood of dying within a decade. The study, conducted in Denmark with over 1,700 participants, also revealed that those experiencing intense grief were more likely to receive mental health care, such as talk therapy and antidepressants. While the exact reasons for this link remain unclear, identifying individuals at risk of prolonged grief could lead to tailored mental health support following a loss. (Upi)
