A recent study suggests that the sitting-to-rising test (SRT) could offer insights into future health outcomes. The test, which assesses balance, muscle strength, and flexibility, involves sitting on the floor and standing back up without using hands, elbows, arms, or knees for support. Brazilian researchers conducted the study with 4,282 adults aged 46 to 75, scoring participants based on their ability to perform the SRT. Those with higher scores were more likely to survive a 12-year follow-up period. Lead author Dr. Claudio Gil Araújo notes that a perfect SRT score may be linked to increased longevity, making it a significant predictor of natural and cardiovascular mortality. Araújo recommends a score above 7.5 for optimal health. (Newser)
