After reintroducing herself to the music world with a series of collaborative singles in recent years, Nelly Furtado is finally ready to release a brand new album of her own. On Thursday morning, July 11, Furtado made an appearance on Today With Hoda & Jenna to officially announce that her seventh studio album, simply titled 7, will be released on September 20. The new album will be Furtado’s first full-length since 2017’s The Ride. “I’ve worked so hard on it,” Furtado said. “It actually took me four years to make this album. I had 500 songs that I whittled down [to] only 14. Don’t worry. It’s not 500. It’s only like 35 minutes, but yeah, a lot of passion went in it.” On an Instagram post, Furtado shared an image of a “7” painted on her bare back, which could be the album art for the new record, along with a lengthy description of what she went through to make her new songs.
