‘Martin’ Prequel Drama Series In Works From Martin Lawrence

Martin, the beloved 90s sitcom starring Martin Lawrence, is getting a new hour-long drama spinoff series called Young Martin. The modern-day origin story centers on the character Martin Payne during his teenage years as he navigates adolescence. The drama series, co-produced by Lawrence and Marvin Peart, is similar to the recent Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air spinoff Bel Air, which also turned a much-loved sitcom into a dramatic narrative. The original Martin won several People’s Choice and NAACP Image awards during its five-season run and regained popularity in 2022 with a successful 30th-anniversary reunion special on BET+ (Deadline)
