Eminem has just announced a July 12 release date for his new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). To add to the excitement surrounding Em’s forthcoming record, the rapper just released a new single from the album, “Tobey,” which features guest spots from fellow Detroiters Big Sean and Babytron. The new track includes multiple references to the comic book superhero Spiderman, from the single’s meme-inspired cover art to Em’s opening verse, which reveals the actor whom the song is named after. “Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider but see, me? It was a goat.” Em also takes a shot at rap legend Mellie Mel, who said that Eminem only gets credit for his rapping because he’s white. “So when I get dissed though by a pioneer who is one of the reasons why I am here / They tell me that I should just let the s**it go and slide / Melle Mel shouldn’t get no reply, that man is a legend / B*tch, so am I.” (Variety)
